racism in the church

The Church of England’s new Archbishop of York, Ugandan-born Dr John Sentamu, has been receiving racist hate mail since the announcement of his appointment. He is the Church’s most senior black appointee.

My reaction to this isn't so much shock as jaded cynicism. That there would be this type of behavour in 2005 in the West is simply wrong. And it's even wronger - i know that's not a word, but that's how wrong this type of attitude and action is within the family of God. But we've become somewhat desensitized to it. Familiarity breeds indifference.
