The 'church' is/are pilgrim people whose 'soul' (intentional spelling)epicentre is Jesus Christ. His life drives ours. We are Christ 'driven' (we cannot be anything else....to be loving and missional... the church is not a building, a destintation, or the space predetermined to be the confinement of the Holy of Holies.
The Holiness and the Righteousness of God goes to 'men/women' where THEY are.
Here is another quote: 'The building of permanent and extravagant structures appears to betray our belief that Christ is coming soon and that as believers, we are pilgrim people' (Darryl M Erkel)
I haven't been apart of the the trad church for well over a year...been doing house cells. I have been used to take Jesus to Canada Post - How about U? ;)
1. At Trinity we have defined our building fund to include church planting, and will be talking lots about non traditional, i.e. non-building oriented church planting. 2. We are emphasizing small groups that meet off site. 3. Our 20somethings group met @ East Side Mario's this fall - I have had a follow up conversation a couple of weeks after one of the event with the waiter who was on that night.
Building orientation / focus distorts the meaning of church.
Most of the "non-charismatic" evangelical church [wow is that ever an oxymoron - how can we be evangelical if we deny the charismata!] is afraid of kingdom language - because it moves into the realm of actually living and walking by faith, rather than simply going through some religious motions. And yet, Jesus very clearly taught, we are to pray "Father... your kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven."
