Christian Peacemakers Freed

Torontonian James Loney, 41, former Montrealer Harmeet Singh Sooden,32, and Briton Norman Kember,74 have been released. There are conflicting reports as to whether they were released by their captors or freed during a military operation on Thursday.

British Foreign secretary Jack Straw confirmed the release of the aid workers. Straw said the three were freed during a military operation conducted by multinational forces. He refused to provide details except to say that planning for the operation had been in the works for "weeks and weeks."

Straw said both Canadians required hospital treatment but gave no details. He said Kember was in "reasonable" condition.
