Convert to Christianity faces death penalty

Mr. Abdul Rahman is a Christian convert facing the death penalty in Afghanistan for converting from Islam.
This has highlighted an urgent and ongoing struggle between Afghanistan’s religious extremists and its reformists over the place Islam should take in the country.

The EFC is calling on Canadian christiabs to pray:
• For Abdul Rahman. That he will be strengthened and comforted by the Lord Jesus and that his faith will not waver. Pray also for his security and well-being.
• For Afghanistan’s President, Hamid Karzai, and his government. That they would resist pressure from extremists and respond to international pressure to release and exonerate Mr. Rahman.
• For Canadian troops in Afghanistan. That they would be encouraged and strengthened. And that they would be an encouragement and support to the Afghan people.
• For the Canadian government, especially Prime Minister Harper. That they would continue to respond courageously in defence of religious freedom, especially as this case develops in the weeks to come.
