quote

Steve McCoy @ reformissionary quotes Mark Dever in A Display of God's Glory quotes the interaction of a Japanese businessman with a visiting Australian (as told by Os Guiness),
Whenever I meet a Buddhist leader, I meet a holy man.
Whenever I meet a Christian leader, I meet a manager.
Sadly, I think he is all too right. I think, as well, that this applies most specifically to the North American scene. In my personal observations, experience and reading, this is all too true. Much of what passes for leading is managing. In part, because we don't know how to lead. In part, because North American church culture is looking for, wants managers, not leaders.

Kinda tunes out God's 'Servant leadership' Model doesn't it!

Personally, I think NA church culture is out to lunch, it should not want 'managers' nor 'leaders' - It should want God to lead His Priesthood of believers who are in turn obedient to His will. . . (who will minister as one to one another in Him).

I am not convinced that church culture really wants God's will, nor his representatives! In my heart of hearts I believe most church bodies are afraid of those who seek the Father's will. I have even heard some of these types called 'riff' and 'raff' only to be forced out the door because they did not fit the definition of church 'club'.

It is easier to execute Human vision in the name of God rather than letting God execute His vision in us! The former has a degree of predictability and comfort while the latter for those who don't know Him would simply be terrifying. Spoken in love.
