the accuser and scripture

Bonhoeffer writes:
The devil... takes the word of God's grace in his hand and whispers to us: God is a God of grace; he will not take our sins seriously." Temptation

Charles Ringma then makes this interesting comment:
Scripture is never the sole possession of the Christian. It is also used by the scholar, the skeptic and the Accuser. While the scholar may enrich our understanding of Scripture, the skeptic and the Accuser help to undermine our faith in God's truth. And while the skeptic may openly reject the Scriptures, the Accuser always uses it sympathetically but destructively - by posing those questions which call God's integrity into question. Therefore Scripture must be carefully discerned and for this we need the guidance of the Spirit.
