church in fog

The title and the photo is from Sam Javanrouh and today's posting on daily dose of imagery - a great daily photoblog. Much of Sam's photos are from Toronto, but this one is one was taken on the road from france to italy. I think this was still in france.

When I first looked at the photo, I thought:

This is sad, it speaks volumes of the state of the church, in many places... lost... alone... overwhelmed by the fog of the times... insignificant...

But as I though more:

This is the state of the church... yes, at times we seem to be overwhelmed by the times... but, in Christ we are are coming out of the fog [Peter uses the word darkness] into the light... we are light on a stand, a city on a hill [Matthew 5:14-15]
