- Brevard Childs died last Saturday. Childs was a great scholar and it hardly need be said that his ‘canonical’ approach to biblical interpretation proved very important to many. Until his retirement in 1999, Brevard S. Childs was the Sterling Professor of Divinity and Fellow of Davenport College, The Divinity School, Yale University, and author of Biblical Theology in Crisis, and The Book of Exodus and Isaiah (Old Testament Library) all from Westminster John Knox Press. A website maintained by D.R. Driver collects much material about him and his writings. An older article by Walter Brueggemann, “Against the Stream: Brevard Childs’s Biblical Theology.”
