Jason Upton

I've been listening to Jason Upton recently, especially his album Great River Road.

Central to Jason's testimony are his Native American roots, which has prophetic implications of healing, namely to specific issues pertaining to American history and the current state of the church. He was originally told that his birth father was a Dakota, which is one of the tribes of the Sioux nation. He has more recently come to know that his birth father is Cherokee.

I have some friends who have 1st Nation's blood... some full status, some Metis, some proud of their heritage, some ignore and don't want anyone to know, some who know the pain of aboriginal schools.

This album, especially the first part, reflects those 1st Nations roots.

If you've never listened to Jason, let me encourage you to check him out. He is somewhat critical of highly structured church services and varying degrees of professionalism in the church. He brings a prophetic voice (some say in the vein of Keith Green) to the church and to worship
