books

google books has calculated that there are 129,864,880 books. Check out the link for how they calculated that number. Combine that with Eric Schmidt's recent comment that "we create as much information in two days now as we did from the dawn of man through 2003" and it's no wonder we often feel so overwhelmed by information.

My piles (yes there is more than 1) of books to read & the list of books to check out increases faster than the piles go down.

There's lots of good stuff being written, and a lot of junk as well. We need to be discerning about what we read. And if we find ourselves taking in more from particular authors than from God's Word we need to be careful. One of the dangerous trends in the Christian community, is that once an author/speaker gets recognized, there seems to be this sense that that gives them the right/authority to speak on every issue. This creates Christian groupies... mindless, unthinking followers of a particular speaker - you can plug in a variety of names there... let me say, it's very dangerous ground.

Maybe I need more coffee: maybe this lens - coffee mug
