I mentioned the recent passing of Clark Pinnock.
Now comes word that Donald G. Bloesch, a prominent evangelical scholar in the United Church of Christ (UCC) and an advisory editor at Christianity Today, died on Tuesday in Dubuque, Iowa. Bloesch, who was professor emeritus at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. I knew him through his translations and writtings on Karl Barth. Mark Noll described his work as probably "the most notable evangelical theology coming from the mainline churches" and one that is "somewhat unexpectedly... providing some of the theological maturity and biblical comprehension absent in the more strictly evangelical bodies."
Gerald F. Hawthorne also passed away last week. His Philippians commentary in the WBC series is one of the best on that book.
