Bonhoeffer on community

In Life Together Bonhoeffer writes:
Just as the Christian should not be constantly feeling his spiritual pulse, so, too, the Christian community has not been given to us by God for us to be constantly taking its temperature.
Isn't this the danger we face [I know I do]... we become so self-reflective that we lose our vision of Christ and the task he has called us to... making disciples... in all the world. When we are so focused on getting our life together right, we so guard it that we choke it. What should be an open hand that blesses and serves the world becomes a closed grasp.
