Last night at Trinity , we had Rev David Mulango, from in network , principal of ZACTS Institute - Z ambian A griculture C rafts (trades such as carpentry or home economics) T heological S tudies. How's that for an interesting, but practical concept! ZACTS trains young Christians with an emphasis on evangelism and discipleship, which results in church planting. Most ZACTS graduates enter the field with the skills needed to be self-reliant tentmakers. Again a radical, but practical idea. One of their church planting target areas is a refugee camp with over 800,000 people in it [that's down from 1 million+].

Underground Church?

Brother Maynard posted this interesting question : It’s not disputed that the growth of the church in China has been explosive… but how do we know that the cause for this is the oft-assumed environment of persecution, and not significantly due to the decentralized underground structure of the church in China? If the church in the west voluntarily decentralized and went ‘underground,’ what would happen? I think he raises a very significant question. The underground / housechurch movement is so significantly different than what most of traditional north american "church" experience is. I think many people are more tied into church structure (of whatever kind) than into a) following Jesus, and, b) seeing God's kingdom built.

Bill 5 is an Attack on Civil Liberties, Indigenous Rights, & the Environment

Advocates from civil liberties, treaty rights and environmental organizations have been gathering at Queen’s Park to oppose the Ford government’s proposed Bill 5. Bill 5 would give the Premier and his cabinet unprecedented control over the province: including the ability to exempt individuals and corporations from provincial and municipal laws and bypass consultation with Indigenous communities. If passed, Bill 5 would: Allow the premier and cabinet to designate “special economic zones” in which “trusted proponents” would be given the authority to undertake projects without regard to provincial and municipal laws; Exempt developments from archeological assessments if the Ontario government is of the opinion that an exemption “could potentially advance one or more of the following provincial priorities”: transit; housing; health and long-term care; other infrastructure; and such other priorities as may be prescribed.
