Esse Quam Videri has this quote from henri nouwen
"...I am deeply convinced that the Christian leader of the future is called to be completely irrelevant and to stand in this world with nothing to offer but his or her own vulnerable self."

I think it's funny that those of us in Christian leadership would never land a ministry job if the words "irrelevant, weak (my word not Nouwen's), and vulnerable" were at the top of our resumes.
It calls into question how we choose and train Christian leaders these days.
Let's re-word this to articulate a greater truth: "...I am deeply convinced that the Christian leader :EDIT OUT: is called to be completely KINGDOM EFFECTIVE :EDIT OUT irrelevant: and to stand in this world with nothing to offer but CHRIST WHO IS LIVING HIS LIFE IN AND THROUGH US AS US "
