Whether we like it or not, we are going to the polls next month here in Canada.
Here's the Elections Canada site to check if you are registered to vote.
Here in Simcoe North, not all the parties have announced who their candidate is... I will update as that information becomes available.
Timing of election
- The election was called on Sunday, 15 August.
- The vote will take place on Monday, 20 September.
This election is unnecessary. The current minority government has worked reasonably well. There has been no forcing of a confidence motion by the opposition parties.

Praying
- Pray that we would be able to discern between righteous candidates and partisan politics.
- Pray that the political spirit will be exposed.
- Pray that the church would find God’s desire and not just our opinions.
- Pray that Christians would seek Godly guidance regarding who to vote for. It is God who gives wisdom and navigation during the election. On our own, we can be deceived by charisma, charm or even election platforms.
- Pray that the Church would make voting decisions from a place of wisdom from God and not out of fear of circumstances.
- As we approach this election and engage with our communities and the political sphere, pray that the church
would not react to the culture around her in fear and anxiety, or look to a political party or leader to “fix” everything
would prioritize encountering God in the secret place (settling down in complete dependence on Him)
would find herself rooted & grounded in the love of God, and clothed in the righteousness, peace and joy of the Holy Spirit in all her interactions - Pray that intercession would be in alignment with the heart of God for our nation. (John 15:5-8)
- Pray for perseverance in seeing our nation's abortion policies be changed and affected by the Sanctity of Life.
- Pray that the issues of life, abortion and physician-assisted suicide must continue to be paramount to Christians across Canada. Pray that through wisdom and strategy we will see a nation that stands for life in Canada.
- Pray that the voice of Christians would be filled with love and compassion and not be compared to a clanging cymbal.' (1Corinthians 13:1,2)
- Pray for the media. Thank you, Lord, for those righteous voices still in our media. Pray that the body of Christ will do its due diligence when listening to media - that they would research to ensure they are listening to the truth.
- Scripture calls us to pray for our leaders. We can actively invite God to work in the hearts and minds of all Canadians as we consider the future of our country.
- Pray for our elected officials
We ask God’s blessing on our elected officials and all who will be elected. - Pray for candidates
Elections are an important time for candidates to discover what matters to their constituents. Pray for wisdom, grace and protection. - Pray for voters
We pray for a greater understanding of our role as citizens and of our life together. - Pray for our country
We ask God to grant us peace and a love of neighbour that perseveres through our differences. - Pray that the Church will engage during this election.
