heavy global hearts

My heart is heavy when I think of Haiti, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Myanmar, India, and so many more places around the world. The countries I have listed have all experienced political turmoil and violence in recent days.

Things have significantly changed for millions of people in these countries. Beyond the horrors of the loss of life and devastation of properties, cultures have been affected. World-views are changing, not just within these nations, but throughout the world.

A great deal has already been posted (and will continue to be posted) regarding how to pray, give, and serve. Search for them as they are easily found.

Whenever tensions such as what we are experiencing in the world right now happen, get ready for waves of internally displaced persons, asylum-seekers, and future refugees. Again, here is a tremendous opportunity to serve the neediest of the neediest. We as God's people are called to be at the forefront of caring for those in need.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer said:

"The Church has an unconditional obligation to the victims of any ordering of society, even if they do not belong to the Christian community."

Let's not get so caught up in being self-focused, that we ignore people whom God loves all over the world, many are our brothers and sisters.

“May your kingdom come” (Matthew 6:10).
