I oppose bombing Iran.
Trump is proposing the possibility of joining Israel in bombing Iran.
There are stories of many Iranians, especially among college students, becoming followers of Jesus. Some are suggesting that Christianity is growing faster in Iran than anywhere else in the world. It's not completely rosy. Persecution is also on the rise. So why would we want to kill our brothers and sisters?
Jews are called to "pray for the peace of Jerusalem".
- We, as Christians, join with them.
- But praying for the peace of Jerusalem also includes praying for the peace of all. The Great Commission of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Acts calls us to that.
- Praying for the peace of Jerusalem does not mean praying for the destruction of others.
Evangelicals have often blindly supported Israel, as if the modern-day political Israel is the same as the Jewish people of God in the Old Testament (that's a post for another day).
Many "pro-Trump evangelicals" (although I think that is a contradiction in terms) are justifying war, and some are even looking forward to it as ushering in the end of the age.
It seems we don't learn
- Vietnam
- Afghanistan
- Iraq
- Yemen
- Somalia
- Syria
The whole Middle East is boiling and getting out of control. In my opinion, it seems like it is about to get a whole lot worse, impacting the whole world.
Regardless of your political, theological, or cultural views, ALL Jesus-loving people should be in deep intercession and prayer, asking God for peace, and speaking up on behalf of those who have little or no voice.
