Like it or not, we live in a world of politics.

The root word of politics is polis (πόλις), an ancient Greek word meaning "city-state" or "community".

Ontario has recently had municipal elections for mayors, councilors, and school board trustees.

I want to make a few observations / comments.

  1. The % of people who voted was low, once again. Here in my city of Guelph bout 36% of eligible voters voted. That is a 9% increase over 2022, but it is still poor. It means almost 2/3 of voters don't care.
  2. People I know who lean toward the right, or are conservative or however they describe themselves, have lamented some of the results, especially if the person who got in was not conservative enough for them.
  3. Doug Ford, has been at it in trying to emulate Trump - he wants power. There is off and on messages about whether school board trustees will be sworn in. He is appointed former Conservative MP Scott Aitchison as the first "strong chair" of the District of Muskoka - these are both anti-democratic moves.
  4. But here's what a really want to say. In all of the social media posts that I have seen... none of those conservative voices have done anything more than complain. None of them have said anything about praying for our leaders.
Paul, writes in 1 Timothy 2:1-2

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

We are called to pray for our leaders - whether we agree with their politics or not. So here are my representatives in Guelph
