October 10 - Ontario Election

Tomorrow - October 10 is the Ontario Provincial Election.
Get out there and vote.
If for no other reason than... if you don't vote... you have no right to complain for the next 4 years!
In my riding of Kitchener-Waterloo I get to choose between:
  • Liberal: Louise Ervin - who actually distributed election material before the official start of the campaign
  • PC: Elizabeth Witmer - long time member of parliament
  • NDP: Catherine Fife - school trustee
  • Green: Judy Greenwood Spears
  • Family Coalition Party: Louis Reitzel - practically invisible in this campaign
Imprint - meet the candidates.

As well there is a referendum taking place to consider changing from a First Past the Post to a Mixed Member Proportional. Interestingly the 3 main (traditional) parties have said essentially nothing on this. Of course, they don't want a MMP system (even though there is a great possibility of patronage appointments in the MMP system) because it would allow newer parties (like the Green) to have representation on the Legislature.

Is the MMP system a good one? I'm not convinced that the way that it is being presented is the best, but I think a MMP system is better than what we have (which, works great in a 2 or 3 party system).

I don't usually let people know how I'm going to vote... I think we need some fresh thinking... I'm leaning heavily toward voting Green and MMP

Both the NDP as a party and Catherine Fife personally support MMP.
