I'll save you Toronto fans the embarrassment of seeing the bottom of the table.

Montreal, which in the last few weeks has been at or near the top of the Eastern Conference - not bad for a team that's in a rebuilding phase.



Toronto, on the other hand (notice once again that they are currently out of a playoff spot) was guaranteed by coach Paul Maurice to make the playoffs and compete for the Stanley Cup. Let me guess - he won't be coaching in Toronto next year. I say that, even though I think he has done a pretty good job with what he had.

A proposal: I wonder what the NHL would be like if they followed the example of the English Premier League [football / soccer] i.e. the lowest 2/3 teams were relegated to say the AHL, and the top 2/3 AHL teams took their place. I have a feeling the quality of play would increase considerably.
